Research area

Loïc Pellisier’s research focuses on understanding and modelling past and future landscape dynamic and its link to biodiversity. He uses the fundamental knowledge in ecology and evolution of landscape biodiversity patterns provided by his research to improve sustainable management of natural resources. One of his research interests is the interaction between species, and  how species assemblages respond to climate change. He also investigates the impact of climate change on ecosystems including the Arctic tundra and the marine realm. His current research objectives are to improve methods of modelling biodiversity across landscapes and to track change in the landscape more accurately with remote sensing technologies.

Projekte

This project contributes to the Blue-Green Biodiversity Research Initiative – an Eawag-WSL collaboration focusing on Biodiversity at the interface of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

Climate change exacerbates drought-related extremes, with significant ecological, economic, and human health impacts. MaLeFiX project is developing an interdisciplinary platform that will provide comprehensive four-week forecasts of drought-related extremes – buying stakeholders valuable time to act.

We are conducting a series of experiments, from plant-hummingbird network manipulations to germination trials, to inform landscape restoration.

Food-web structure is likely affected by global change with consequences for biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. In this project we study changes in food webs and nutrient fluxes in response to global change drivers in aquatic, terrestrial and interconnected habitats.

Das Joint-Intiative Projekt SPEED2ZERO zeigt Wege auf, wie durch Massnahmen, wie dem Ausbau von erneuerbarer Energiegewinnung und optimierter Biodiversitätsplanung, eine treibgausgasfreie und biodiversitätsfreundliche Schweiz erreicht werden kann.

Ecological and economic systems are complex adaptive systems (CAS): they are systems that are composed of many entities with heterogeneous characteristics, which interact and experience selection processes. Those processes act at the entity level, but are key in determining the macroscopic behaviour at the system level, a feature that make those systems unique.
