Throughout the discussions with fellow colleagues at SLF, one easily notices the common interest in applying machine learning methods to variety of domain specific problems at our institute. Those of us who, directly or indirectly, use machine learning already, surely know it doesn’t come for free to make a model produce satisfying results on data at hand. It is very well possible that many of us are facing the same issues, and must solve them on and on again, alone. Besides that, machine learning is evolving with a speed that hardly ever allows to stay up-to-date. I would therefore like to propose to start a Machine Learning Seminar Group, a regular meetup, where everyone could share their experience, discuss the problem they are stuck on, or present latest advances in machine learning to the others. In the kick-off meeting, I would like to introduce the idea more in detail and allow for discussion on the exact format, discover who is interested and, if time allows, share with you a little example of how our future meetings could look like.
