Distinct rings, semi-ring porous, vessels solitary or in short radial groups, scalariform vessel pits, vestured pits, often tangential fiber bands in the early wood, thin walled parenchyma between thick walled vessels. Rayless.

No distinct tangential layers. Radial cell rows, groups of sieve cells and parenchyma between ray indistinct dilatations. Groups of sclerenchymatic cells in older parts.
