The WSL runs a Research Tower at the southern slope of the hill Lägeren (at the place called Zindlen). Measurements on the 47 m hight tower are carried out by several research institutes. The first tower, build in the frame of the National Research Programm 14, was replaced after beeing damaged during the storm Lothar.
The tower is equipped with a climb protecting system with gliding fall arresters (EN 353-1). Only persons with an authorization from the responsible for security at WSL are allowed to climb the tower.
