Avalanche course in Tajikistan

31.03.2016  |  News

In March 2016 Mark Schaer from the research group Avalanche Protection Measures gave a second course for 40 avalanche safety managers in Khorog, in the high Pamir mountains on the border to Afghanistan. Transport lines and settlements are particularly endangered by avalanches there. FOCUS, an affiliate of the Agha Khan foundation and the Welthungerhilfe mandated SLF to carry out this course. The course includes both theoretical and practical aspects. Participants practice evaluating avalanche danger, planning avalanche protection measures and carrying out avalanche rescues.
