In collaboration with Workplace Diversity and the Biodiversity Center, the PhD Club organized a Career Day on April 12, 2024. The goal of this event was to explore career paths outside academia.
Over 50 participants (PhDs and postdocs working on biodiversity) attended the Career Day, which started with a talk on the job-hunting process by Dr. Elena Plekhanova (Postdoc at WSL and trained career coach). Afterward, there was a panel discussion with five experts who had transitioned from academia to industry, government, and education. The panelists, Dr. Paul Haverkamp (Ostschweizer Fachhochschule), Dr. Bianca Saladin (Canton of Zurich), Dr. Maitane Ituratte-Garcia (Federal Institute of Metrology METAS), Dr. Lukas Widmer (Grün Stadt Zürich), and Dr. Samuel Wirth (ECOPLAN), shared their career paths and insights, offering valuable advice to the participants. Overall, the event was very well-received by both panelists and attending participants.
The PhD Club will make available a summary of the talk and panel discussion. For more information, please get in touch with Merin Reji Chacko.
