Action Plan for the Pink Waxcap (Hygrocybe calyptriformis)
On behalf of the Canton of Bern, an action plan for the protected and highly endangered Hygrocybe calyptriformis is being developed This species of waxcap is primarily found in meagre meadows and extensively managed pastures, and its survival is increasingly threatened by the intensification of agriculture.
To begin with, the action plan foresees conducting field surveys to assess known and potential sites of the Pink Waxcap. These surveys will provide valuable information for the plan's implementation. In addition, the plan will (i) consolidate the existing knowledge about this fungal species, (ii) analyze the current situation of the Pink Waxcap specifically in the Canton of Bern, (iii) define measures to protect its habitats, and (iv) establish a monitoring system to assess the success of these conservation efforts.
This action plan is particularly noteworthy as it represents a pioneering initiative in Switzerland. It will be the first action plan dedicated to a fungal species in the country. By developing this comprehensive approach, the Canton of Bern aims to set an example for future conservation efforts. Overall, the action plan for Hygrocybe calyptriformis in the Canton of Bern demonstrates a commitment to preserving biodiversity and addressing the challenges faced by endangered species in the face of agricultural intensification.
