ICOS-CH is the Swiss contribution to the European project ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System), which studies greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, from and into the biosphere and the ocean. The European Integrated Carbon Observation System Research Infrastructure project (ICOS RI) started in 2013 after a 4-year preparatory phase. ICOS-CH is part of this collaborative project. ICOS is an environmental and climate research project, a network of measurement and observation sites to study the terrestrial and marine biosphere as a source/sink of greenhouse gases, i.e., carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane. In Switzerland, two sites have been chosen that are unique in the European region: the high alpine research station Jungfraujoch and the subalpine forest around Davos. Both sites have the CLASS 1 label from ICOS. WSL is involved in measurements at the Davos site.
