Throughout various countries of Europe, a vast number of silviculture forest management concepts have evolved, each specialized on the ecosystem in which it is applied in. But today, forests are facing various challenges of climate change and socio-economic interests that have to be addressed at the same time. This implies that environmental aspects, socio-economic interests and industrial resource requirements have to be brought together in management concepts for silviculture. It is necessary to start a transformation of current forest management towards more resilient forest ecosystems. ONEforest develops a multi-criteria planning system for strategic decision makers from forestry, politics and industry and provides information regarding potential social, ecologic and economic impacts of alternative management options in a medium to long-term perspective.
