Abstract ¶
Biodiversity is an abstract concept. How can it be conveyed to a broad audience? The science journalist Atlant Bieri is doing exactly that in his science shows. He turns biodiversity into something that can be experienced with all the senses. Instead of talking about soil biodiversity for instance, he shows his audience a pregnant wood louse enlarged 40 times and explains what it has to do with our food production. Or he lets his audience smell a horse manure after it has been decomposed by fungi for two months. This is biodiversity for the nose. With this method, he turns biodiversity into a full-body experience. In this talk he will share some of his methods.
About the speaker ¶

Atlant Bieri, born in 1980, studied environmental science and journalism and has been working in science communication ever since. He is the author of several non-fiction books for children and adults, among them a non-fiction book about the mysterious world of soil in 2021. He regularly appears in front of audiences for his science shows and readings and uses a microscope to show the life in sewage water or in the spaces between his toes.
