Pooling mental and scientific models of climate change impacts on Alpine mass movements

Coopération FinancementA key to planning, communicating and successfully implementing long-term prevention measures in the Alps (MemoCLIM) ¶
Society expects massive impacts of climate-change on Alpine mass movements. Recent studies revealed that actors in these regions show a low preparedness to engage in appropriate prevention measures, due to ambiguity and uncertainty. To achieve a shared and more comprehensive understanding of complex problems, recent research planning recommends the initiation of a knowledge co-creation process involving regional stakeholders, planning experts and scientists. This transdisciplinary project tests and evaluates such a knowledge co-creation process for dealing with regional mass movement risks in the Canton of Uri (Göschenertal) and Valais (Saastal) using a quasi-experimental approach. The outcome of the project is to provide the practice with science-based knowledge how to most effectively establish a science-policy interface. This could support stakeholders to identify widely accepted long-term measures to cope with the consequences of future mass movements
