The International Commission for the Hydrology of the Rhine Basin (CHR) has been engaged in climate change impact assessments on the discharge of the Rhine River and its major tributaries for a long time (https://www.chr-khr.org/en). The large CHR Rheinblick2050 study was published in 2010. Since then, the IPCC has released new emission scenarios, and climate science and models have also improved. Therefore, updating the 2010 hydrological scenarios for the Rhine is necessary. The CHR proposes to launch the next Rheinblick project, named "Rheinblick2027." The study's objective is to investigate the effects of climate change on the Rhine River discharge based on the latest state-of-the-art. A working group with experts from several research institutions and technical water agencies will conduct the analyses, thus ensuring an improved shared understanding of the system. Also, new scientific questions and the water cycle (including groundwater, flash floods, etc.) will be tackled in the project.
