The project Rheinblick2027 investigates the effects of climate change on the discharge of the Rhine River and its major tributaries using the latest state-of-the-art methodologies. Initiated by the International Commission for the Hydrology of the Rhine Basin (CHR https://www.chr-khr.org/en), it aims to update the hydrological scenarios from the RheinBlick2010 study (formerly Rheinblick2050) by using the KNMI’23 scenarios and the three hydrological core models (WFLOW, LARSIM, PREVAH). A working group with experts from several research institutions and technical water agencies will conduct the analyses, thus ensuring an improved shared understanding of the system. Also, new scientific questions and the water cycle will be tackled in the project, such as flash floods, groundwater, extreme value statistics, and sea level rise.
