Assessing the potential of high-resolution satellite-based radars for early detection of slope acceleration

The main objective of this project is to evaluate if high resolution SAR data, such as the ones acquired by the ICEYE satellite constellation, can be used as reliable alternative to ground monitoring in case of accelerated slope deformation.We will deliver a baseline for a system providing early detection of slope acceleration based on frequent satellite SAR acquisitions in a selected pilot area. The results will allow us to make solid hypotheses on a potential prototype of early detection of slope acceleration and warning in high mountain regions, where SAR satellite data are in most cases the only viable option to obtain information in poorly accessible regions and/or in any weather conditions.
