Transversal section

   
  Ring-porous. Pores frequently solitary or in more or less radial multiples and clusters. Growth ring boundaries distinct, marked by abrupt transition in pore size from latewood to earlywood. Fibres in ground tissue almost exclusively thickwalled. Gum deposits in heartwood vessels.
 
 

Radial section

   
  Simple perforation plates. Spiral thickenings, typically widely spaced. Rays very often homogeneous to heterogeneous, often square ray cells. Ground tissue predominantly composed of fibre-tracheids, transitions to libriform fibres occur.
 
 

Tangential section

   
  Uniseriate and multiseriate (generally 4- to 8-seriate). Rays rarely higher than 1mm.
