Transversal section

   
  Ring-porous to semi-ring-porous. Pores generally solitary and relatively widely spaced. Growth ring boundaries very distinct. Parenchyrna apotracheal, diffuse, rarely paratracheal. Ground tissue cells thick-walled. Pith: In the pith small groups and rows of thick-walled cells are situated between large thin-walled cells.
 
 

Radial section

   
  Simple perforation plates. Spiral thickenings in vessels. Uniseriate rays composed of upright cells. Heterogeneous, multiseriate rays with numerous rows of upright and square marginal cells. Only fibre-tracheids, no libriform fibres present. Prismatic crystals in ray cells.
 
 

Tangential section

   
  Two types of rays: uniseriate rays with oval elongated cells, 3 to 12 cells high and multiseriate, generally over 6 cells wide rays, frequently with sheath cells, often over 10mm high.
 
 

Key characters

   
  Ring-porous. Solitary pores. Rays both uni- and multiseriate, multiseriate rays very high. Spiral thickenings.
 
 

Remarks

   
  The wood of the different Rosa species could not be differentiated on the basis of anatomic features up to now.
